Description
Abundance of major tree species in the eastern United States. Data presented here are derived from the US Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program. Abundance data were summarized for two periods. The first was inventory data prior 2000, for which all states were completely surveyed periodically but asynchronously. The second was inventory data post 2000, for which all states have been surveyed annually but partially using a rotating panel system. Data are summarized using a panel of hexagons with the size of 1,452 km2 for each hexagon. Total number of stems for all trees, total number of saplings (< 12.7 cm in DBH), and total number adult trees (>12.7 cm in dbh) were summarized by hexagon at both inventory period.
